Veteran Lt. Col. SPS Brar
LT COL SURINDER PAL SINGH BRAR [retd] is an an alumni of Sainik School Kapurthala. After completing his 10+2[CBSE,] he joined the National Defence Academy in 1981 as an Army cadet and successfully passed out in 1984 to further join the Indian Military Academy as a G.C.
He was commissioned in the Regiment of Artillery in June 1985. He did two tenures in the Siachen Glacier and was awarded GOC-in-C Northern Command Commendation Card for Gallantry in 1987.
In November 1988 he was selected to undergo Army Pilots course and was awarded the prestigious Army Aviation wings in 1990. He joined a Recce and Observation Flight in North East and later moved to Leh and flew in the Siachen Glacier.
In September 1996, he was selected to be posted to 104[helicopter] Squadron, Air Force to fly as a Mi 35 Gunship pilot. He was declared a Two Aircraft leader on Mi 35 Gunships in the year 1998.
In May 2003, he was selected to command a Recce and Observation Flight in South Western Threatre. In Jan 2005, his flight was selected to represent The Indian Army as an Indian Army Aviation Contingent for peacekeeping at Democratic Republic of Congo as part of a UN Multinational Force . The contingent successfully flew almost 1500hrs in one year in Hostile Environment and earned Laurels for itself. For the Act of bravery while flying in one of the operations, LT COL SPS BRAR was awarded the GOC Commendation Certificate by the UN.
He was further posted as Commanding officer 27 C.G Battalion, NCC at Raipur where at a time he had approximately 2500 boys and girls cadets under his command. He took premature Retirement from the Army in May 2007 after completion of almost 22 years of service.
In July 2007, he joined the Pawan Hans Helicopters Ltd as an Executive pilot for 5 years. Further, in July 2012, he sidestepped to Govt. of Gujarat as the Chief Pilot [Helicopter] and flew for the present Honourable PM Shri Narendra Modi . At present he holds an active Airline Transport Pilot [Helicopter] license.
